This beautiful venue has gone through many changes and has hosted a number of events. Built in 1963, it was first utilized as it is today, as a dining and luau venue. Hale Aloha then became the stage for the evening show, presented on selected evenings depending on the season. In those days it was a much smaller stage, but the large mountain structure is original.
In 1965 Hale Aloha was featured in the final number in Paradise Hawaiian Style (released in 1966) with the great Elvis Presley. The production included representatives from all of the islands in a rousing drum, song and dance routine. You can enjoy a clip of this song on YouTube by typing in “Drums of the Islands Closing Song” or by trying this LINK.
The Canoe Pageant originally premiered in 1966. In the 80’s it was actually held in Hale Aloha. The river section was much larger, allowing the canoes to turn around and pass each other during the performance. In 1994, the canoe pageant was moved once again to the lagoon.
Today is serves as one of the venues for our popular Ali’I Luaus and features a river, a pua’a (roast pig) pit, a swinging bridge and a waterfall.
